Frequently Asked Questions

When will I learn my child’s status?
There are two rounds of admission. All admission communication will be sent via email using the email addresses used in the online application process.
Round 1: First week in January (invitation to interview)
Round 2: First week in March (final admissions status update)

How many students will be admitted to Harford Technical High School?
Approximately 270 students will be admitted.  A waitlist will be maintained in the event openings become available.

What if my student applied to multiple magnet programs and is also accepted to the Science and Math Academy, Global Studies/International Baccalaureate, or Natural Resources/Agricultural Sciences?
Students admitted into more than one magnet program have the option to select the program of their choice.

If my student is placed on the Harford Tech waitlist, but accepts admission to another magnet program, can my student remain on the Harford Tech waitlist?
Due to the large number of students that apply each year to Harford Technical High School, we ask that students communicate if they are declining admission to HTHS at their first opportunity to allow room for others.  They are welcome to remain on our waitlist if they desire.

Can a student find out where they are on the waitlist?
This information will be sent out through email with the acceptance notification in March.  Students are welcome to check in to see if the wait list has moved after that date by contacting Jeanne.Donlick@hcps.org. Mrs. Donlick will be in touch with students as the year progresses and changes are made.

What happens after my student has been accepted?
Accepted students will receive a packet of information via email including information about transportation, class registration, extracurricular opportunities, summer assignments, and Geometry registration.  A meeting for accepted students will be held to aid with registration and basic HTHS information in the spring.

Will my child be provided transportation?
Yes, more information on the Harford Tech consolidated stop system can be found here.
